Hundreds Run-Walk in the Rain
The Cherry Hill Fun Run celebrated its 20th Birthday in grand style on July 30th. Despite heavy rain 211 runners and walkers registered for the 10k event. Eighty-three walkers and one hundred twenty-three runners took part this year, our second largest number ever. Fourteen enthusiastic young people under 12 ran in the “Beach n’ Back runs. Over $6000 was raised for the fire department.
You don’t have to be first across the line to win a medal in Cherry Hill. Gold, silver, and bronze trophies are drawn by lot from among the people who complete the course. Participant ages ranged from 10 to 70.
Major Sponsors for the race were: C. Edwin Sperry Electrical Ltd., Spurgeon Crouse Carpentry, Rocky Mountain Phoenix, Norm Bagnald of BMO Nesbitt-Burns, RBN Fisheries, and O“Regan’s Subaru. Lunenburg County Community Health Board gave a generous donation to the help pay for food for the race participants.
A limited number of special anniversary T-Shirts left over are available for sale through the fire department for $10.00 each. Contact members of the fire department for further information.
Children’s races were organized by the Municipality of Lunenburg Recreation Dept. for children 12 years and under.
10 Km Participants received a T-shirt designed by local artist, Leslie Snidal. Post race food was chilli, fish chowder, buns and desserts made in local kitchens. Fiddler Earl Teal and his group provided music for those who could still step dance after running 10k. Scads of door prizes donated by local businesses meant over half the crowd went home with some sort of door prizes.
The 10Km fundraiser for the United Communities Fire department starts in Cherry Hill, goes to Broad Cove and back.
Benjamin Peveril, a young person from Hebbville, running his first 10K, was awarded the gold medal. The silver medal went to Carolyn Hebb from Greenfield while Elizabeth Fee from Halifax picked up the bronze.
